May is National Bike Month, and La Crosse is uniquely qualified to celebrate it!
The city continues to invest in becoming a more bike-friendly community. We’re actively working to secure funding for bicycle counters that will help us better understand riding patterns and improve infrastructure for everyone.
The city was given silver-level bicycle-friendly community status by The League of American Bicyclists® through their Bicycle Friendly America℠ program. La Crosse earned this recognition because of its dedication to improving bicycling culture and infrastructure in the city.
The City of La Crosse has partnered with Green Homeowners United to provide free energy audits and upgrades to over 300 low-income households. This program is made possible through a $747,000 grant from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC). Households interested in participating can find out if they’re eligible and apply at the Green Homeowners United Website
The City of La Crosse is finishing the third phase of Solar Panel Installations on buildings, generating $10+ million in savings over the next 15 years
City of La Crosse Mayor Reynolds is excited to launch an open call for new and ambitious climate efforts led by young people aged 15-24. La Crosse is receiving $50,000 from Bloomberg Philanthropies to distribute as microgrants to fund a groundswell of youth-led climate initiatives.
La Crosse Distilling combines its passion for distilling with a dedication to sustainability, using geothermal and reducing waste to help achieve the City’s Climate Action Plan goals.
Wisconsin is the first state in the nation to launch the Home Efficiency (HOMES) portion of the Federal Home Energy Rebates program – enabling households at all income levels, with an emphasis on lower-income households, to save on energy efficiency improvements such as insulation, air sealing, and heat pumps that reduce whole-home energy consumption.

The City of La Crosse’s fifty-member Climate Action Plan (CAP) Team have established preliminary draft Climate Action Plan goals organized into nine “sectors”
The City of La Crosse’s climate planning consultant, paleBLUEdot, believes effective, meaningful, and community specific climate action planning is grounded in robust data collection and assessment of community existing conditions metrics. Establishing comprehensive baseline data is a necessary element that provides a point from which to inventory what you have before you set out to improve it, and from there, aid in identifying and establishing strategies, and measuring the progress of them. The broader the baseline data available, the more effective goalsetting and action planning can be.
